Got one of those: “I would read a whole story about this” comments about a fic.
And…
I…
You just did? A one-shot is still a story! Like, I wrote a story and you read the story. Boom. Done.
Short stories have value. Please stop acting like the only valid form of fanfic writing is long, multichapter fics. (And then y’all won’t even read fics that are in the process of being written, but that’s a different gripe.)
But back to my main point. Stop diminishing short stories/one-shots as “not a real story.” It’s demeaning and insulting, and invalidates the work the writer put into it.
One-shots are full fanfics. They have value as stories.
I felt like I needed to clarify some things before we could continue any more conversations on this godforsaken website.
I’m very proud of the European Robin, I think I really captured it.
ALSO A DADDY LONG LEGS is different in the UK vs USA. I learned that by arguing with some Brits because they said there was a daddy long legs on the wall, i looked and only saw an insect, argued with them all for 45 minutes until we all looked it up and saw that we were both correct.
British badger: jovial fellow, eats toast and jam. Might invite you in for a cuppa with the Mrs. Agricultural nuisance.
American badger: pallas cat of a wolverine. Very defensive. Fuck immediately off.
Bonus African badger: Silverback gorilla of mustelids. Should be a cryptid. Bro, don’t even. You are nothing to him.
In 2016, over 75,000 mail-in ballots were left
uncounted and discarded because they were received after mail-in voting deadlines, which all vary by state, according to CBS news.
Some states like California allow you to check with the Registrar of Voters on-line to verify both if a ballot has issued and if it was received to help prevent voting errors.
Remember, the most common forms of voter fraud are 1) gerrymandering, 2) voter suppression and 3) foreign participation through both lobbying and online misinformation.
wow this is a great question. i had to stop and think, and maybe there was something at school? but i don’t remember. i’m pretty sure anything covered at school would have already been covered much better by my parents. i think i might have to vote no, just because whatever was at school would have paled in comparison to what i got at home. my parents had their weak suits, but sex ed was not one of them.
I said yes because my school had a health class that included information on forms of birth control, as well as STDs. It still leaned heavily to the “the only way to be safe is to never ever have sex,” but at least there was factual information provided. There is also a domestic violence shelter in my area that goes out to all the schools and gives talks on date rape and consent, and involves a badass old lady walking teenagers step-by-step through a very realistic and non-sensationalized scenario and basically breaking down the assumptions and misunderstandings that led to a sexual assault. Which I think is pretty awesome. They are still doing it in the school I now teach at.
